DESCRIPTION
The death of Wat Tyler, the leader of the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, in which he marched a group of rebels from Kent to London to oppose the Poll Tax and demand social and economic reform. Tyler was killed by soldiers who were loyal to King Richard II in the fracas which erupted during negotiations at Smithfield.
